Mangatepopo Road Upgrade

This project for the Department of Conservation in 2009 involved the completion of tabledrain cleanout, gravel supply and placement and construction of drainage tailouts. The project also included approximately 1500m2 of two coat seal which was completed at the start of the next summer as per the contract.

  • Works completed through the winter months and earthworks involved transplanting of plants and soil to ease corners and improve site distances
  • Table drain cleanout using grader to carry material forward and the 14t excavator and truck to load out to dump site. Eroded sections were cleaned out directly using 14t excavator and truck. In deeper table drains on steeper sections of road it was agreed to place 75 to 100mm stone to assist in slowing water flows and minimising erosion
  • Total road upgraded 5.8km or some 25,000m2 using an 80mm overlay of AP30 crushed river stone supplied from Byfords Berry’s pit. . Approximately 15% of the project area had the subgrade improved using AP 65 Sub-base again ex Byfords Berry’s pit. The works were completed at a rate of around 300m per day
